DeepL is a Cologne-based company founded in 2017 by Jaroslaw Kutylowski that builds neural machine translation technology, evolving from the earlier Linguee dictionary service. Its core product translates text and documents across dozens of languages with a reputation for higher fluency than rival engines, and it also offers DeepL Write, an AI writing and editing assistant, plus API access for developers. The platform serves both individual users and enterprise customers, reportedly around 100,000 business clients across sectors. A May 2024 Series C round led by Index Ventures raised $300M at a roughly $2B valuation, bringing total funding to approximately $415M.
