Google DeepMind
Google DeepMind is Alphabet's AI research laboratory, formed in 2023 through the merger of DeepMind (founded in London in 2010 by Demis Hassabis, Shane Legg and Mustafa Suleyman, acquired by Google in 2014) with Google Brain. It develops the Gemini family of large language models that power Google's consumer and enterprise AI products, alongside generative systems such as the Imagen text-to-image, Veo text-to-video and Lyria music models. It is also responsible for landmark scientific research including AlphaFold, whose protein-structure prediction work earned Hassabis and John Jumper a share of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. As a wholly owned Alphabet subsidiary, it is funded internally rather than through external venture rounds.
