Healx is a clinical-stage biotech using an AI platform to discover and develop treatments for rare diseases, building a biomedical knowledge graph from literature, clinical, biochemical and patent data to identify connections between compounds and rare conditions. Its approach emphasizes drug repurposing and combination therapies to move candidates toward the clinic faster. Founded in 2014 in Cambridge by Tim Guilliams and David Brown (a co-inventor of Viagra), the company has raised around $110 million to date. Its $47M Series C, co-led by Atomico and R42, accompanied FDA clearance to begin a Phase 2 trial for a neurofibromatosis type 1 treatment.
