Mistral AI is a French AI company building open-weight and commercial large language models, along with Le Chat, its consumer and enterprise assistant. Founded in 2023 by former DeepMind and Meta researchers Arthur Mensch, Guillaume Lample and Timothee Lacroix, it positions itself as Europe's leading independent frontier lab and an alternative to US model providers. It raised a roughly €1.7B Series C in 2025 led by chip-equipment maker ASML, reaching a valuation of about €11.7B. While headquartered in Paris, it maintains a UK presence in the City of London.
